How It All Began

Founded in 1999 by a group of visionary Jewish philanthropists led by Charles Bronfman and Michael Steinhardt, Taglit Birthright Israel began with a bold idea: to give young Jewish adults the opportunity to experience Israel firsthand and explore questions of identity, belonging, community, and connection.

Today, that vision has grown into a global platform of experiences and opportunities that connect people to Israel in meaningful ways – through travel, education, volunteering, professional development, and more.

Taglit Birthright Israel is made possible through a unique partnership of philanthropists, Jewish communities and Federations, the Government of Israel, alumni, families, partners, and donors around the world who share our mission.

In North America, Birthright Israel Foundation helps make these experiences possible through the support of nearly 40,000 donors each year, ensuring that future generations can continue to build their own connection with Israel.
